Educator
If you want to learn how to produce top mathematicians, you can learn from the education of Sir Isaac Newton and Leonhard Euler to see why they became the best Mathematicians the world has ever known. (Carl Friedrich Gauss is considered to be the 3rd person in the tie for the best of the best but he was a prodigy, hence it is harder to learn from him).
Amos Tarfa
educationist & medical physicist
About Amos
My name is Amos Tarfa (AmosTheMathGuy). I live in Texas with my wife Stephanie and our 7 children. I have a master’s degree in Medical Physics, another master’s in Medical Health Physics and have completed a year of my PhD in Chemistry & STEM Education.
I grew up in Nigeria and came to the United States in January 2007 for my college education. I earned a first degree in Chemistry (Pre-Med) with a minor in Philosophy. My initial plans were to become a medical doctor (pediatrician) and to inspire children, like Dr. Ben Carson inspired me.
My Journey
Instead of proceeding to medical school upon graduation, I decided to go into Education and Christian Apologetics instead. There is a longer story explaining why I left the medical vision behind which I can email to you if you are interested.
In 2011, I taught Algebra 2, Geometry, Biology and World History at a Christian private school in Minnesota. Prior to that, I worked at the Math Lab at University of Wisconsin Superior during my undergraduate days.
I love Math. Math is beautiful and it has very practical applications in everyday life, just as it also has very important applications in Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science. At the end of the 2011/2012 school year, I decided to do some summer teaching and tutoring. It was during this time that I discovered the problem with American Math education. My book Tools For Mastering Mathematics goes into great detail regarding the problem and my proffered solutions.
I noticed that students taking Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry sometimes would learn the same topic over and over again. For example, Coordinate Geometry and Graphing Lines are explained the same way 3 years in a row! They are sometimes reviewed in PreCalculus, which makes it 4 years in a row. However, many students still do not know how to graph a line. This duplication without mastery problem occurs in PreAlgebra as well as with fractions. The problem is that there are many students who still have not mastered these concepts, hence many students complain that they do not like Math.
SAT/ACT Prep.
No one should have to take student loans for their undergraduate degree. Getting a College degree does not have to be expensive. Also everyone who goes for their college education should know exactly what they want to study.

Tools for Mastering Math
Let's raise the bar!
I have finished compiling my math curriculum which I call Counting To Calculus which provides math support either as the main course for a student or as a supplement. (It comes with the 248 topics which students learn from elementary school to the end of PreCalculus). We want every child to love Mathematics. We also want them to learn the History, Philosophy and Applications of Mathematics along with an understanding of how Math is used in different careers which could help them have a vision for life.
When it comes to anything Mathematics for anyone in the world – whether they are the best in their class or the worst in their class or somewhere in between – I guarantee that I can give them a deeper understanding of Mathematics as well as the tools to Master More Mathematics.
